For the next couple weeks, I'm gonna put out a preview for every F1 team for the 2014 season. I will try and be consistent and do it every weekday at 11:00 AM, but I know I'm lazy and may not get it every day, let me know what you think of my preview
The Team:
Marussia F1 Team
Origins:
Virgin Racing, Virgin/Marussia Racing
Team History:
The team formed in 2010 as Virgin Racing, before Marussia purchased a controlling stake and rebranded the team as Marussia F1 Team in 2012. The team has a bad past with finishing last in constructors points in the first two years of racing, even being beat by HRT in 2010 and 2011. In 2013 Marussia finally broke through and beat Caterham and finished 10th in constructor's points. Their best finish is 12th at Interlagos in 2012.
The Car:
The Marussia MR03 makes the switch to Ferrari engines after Cosworth pulled out of F1. I'm not sure how I feel about a Russian with the heart of an Italian, it's a bit of an odd mix.
Is the Nose a Gentleman's Sausage?
Yes, however the black paint mostly camouflages the bulge.
The Drivers:
Max Chilton- Chilton is the poster child for drivers who got where they are because of Daddy's money. When you google him, the first results are "Max Chilton father" and "Max Chilton pay driver," however, the following result is "Max Chilton girlfriend" and she does not disappoint. Max had little success in GP2 with two wins and two poles in over 60 races, but was the first rookie F1 driver to finish every race in their first season. He finished 23rd in drivers standings last year and will try to improve position this year.
(Chilton proving that slow and steady does not win the race, but it does finish the race)
Jules Bianchi- The first thing you notice when you google Jules Bianchi is the first and second result have nothing to do with the driver, but a photographer of the same name. The next thing you notice is he seems like a pretty good driver, he was a test driver for Ferrari in 2011 and Force India in 2012, he was rumored to fill in for Massa in 2009, and he has a pair of podium championship finishes in GP2. If he racks up a few good finishes this year and continues to beat Chilton, he may get a call-up next year to a better team like Sauber or Toro Rosso
The Sponsors:
Max Chilton's Dad is the primary sponsor with QNET, Bifold, and Carcliq as supporting sponsors.
Why You Would Like This Team:
The team spawned from Manor Motorsports who helped get Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikonnen started, so if you like a team with a possible eye for talent, this team could be a good option. Vladamir Putin may also force you to go for this team to boost Russian Nationalism, so rooting for this team may keep you out of the Gulag!
My Expectations:
Expect Marussia to remain at the back for the year and Bianchi to consistently beat Chilton. I doubt a finish higher than 10th in the constructor's championship is a possibility, and they will continue to battle with Caterham.
